Snoring surgery – Pillar Procedure implants
Pillar procedure is snoring surgery procedures, palate implants is a minor procedure meant to relieve habitual snoring and treat mild to moderate sleep apnea brought about by a relaxation of the muscles at the end of the throat.
These pillar procedure involves surgical placing of small polyester rods into the soft palate. Each of these implants measure eighteen millimeters in length and one and a half millimeters in diameter. This leads to the healing of the tissues around the implants as they harden the soft palate, thus reducing relaxation and vibration of the tissue, a procedure that can be conducted by a local anesthesia.
Studies have shown that palate implants are associated with very minimal complications. The most commonly reported complication is the tip of an implant sticking out through the soft palate tissue. It is recommended that should this happen, the implant be removed or replaced.
Other complications that tend to go away naturally after one week of surgery include sore throat, difficulty in swallowing and the feeling of having a foreign body in the soft palate. In case you develop a fever after the procedure, don’t hesitate to call your doctor .
